On the Entropy Production Due to Explosion in Seawater

چکیده
Abstract The change in entropy is calculated due to propagation of blast waves, produced by the explosion of spherical charge in sea water, using the energy hypothesis of Thomas. The release of energy is considered as instantaneous and the gravitation of earth is taken into account, assuming the earth to be a sphere of uniform density. For the sake of simplicity, effect of rotation of the earth is not considered. The explosion is considered at different depths. It has been found that the change in entropy of water decreases at different radial points, as the shock moves away from the point of explosion. Explosion occurred at larger depths, produces a smaller change in entropy of water, then the explosion of same energy, at smaller depths. Directional dependence of entropy production and the motion of the shock are also studied. It has been found that, entropy production is larger in upward motion of the underwater shock. However the shock velocity increases in downward direction.

Evaluating the Production Yield of an Exopolysaccharide Produced by Enterobacter cloacae subsp. Dissolvens in Seawater
The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of different parameters on exopolysaccharide (EPS) production from Enterobacter cloacae subsp. dissolvens using seawater as a basal medium. For this purpose, the effect of carbon (sucrose, molasses, paraffin and sunflower oil) and nitrogen sources, NaCl concentration, incubation time, pH as well as seawater dilution or enrichment with disti...
متن کاملOptimization of Finned-Tube Heat Exchanger with Minimizing the Entropy Production rate
A compact fin-tube heat exchanger is used to transfer current fluid heat inside the tubes into the air outside. In this study, entropy production and optimized Reynolds number for finned-tube heat exchangers based on the minimum entropy production have been investigated. As a result, the total entropy of compact heat exchangers, which is the summation of the production rate of fluid entropy ins...
متن کاملOn the Propagation of Blast Wave in Earth′s Atmosphere: Adiabatic and Isothermal Flow
Adiabatic and isothermal propagations of spherical blast wave produced due to a nuclear explosion have been studied using the Energy hypothesis of Thomas, in the nonuniform atmosphere of the earth. The explosion is considered at different heights. Entropy production is also calculated along with the strength and velocity of the shock. In both the cases; for adiabatic and isothermal flows, it ha...
متن کاملNumerical and Analytical Approach for Film Condensation on Different Forms of Surfaces
This paper tries to achieve a solution for problems that concern condensation around a flat plate, circular and elliptical tube in by numerical and analytical methods. Also, it calculates entropy production rates. At first, a problem was solved with mesh dynamic and rational assumptions; next it was compared with the numerical solution that the result had acceptable errors. An additional suppor...
متن کاملNumerical Study of Spherical Vapor Layer Growth Due to Contact of a Hot Object and Water
Vapor film formation and growth due to contact of a hot body and other liquids arise in some industrial applications including nuclear fuel rods, foundry and production of paper. The possibility of a steam explosion remains in most of these cases which could result in injuries and financial damage. Due to the importance of such phenomenon, this study deals with vapor layer forming, growth, and ...
